I would do them the same way as for Christmas ornament cupcakes:

Hope that helps :-)

^that!  or you can bake cakes in the half spheres and put them on top of the cupcake... If you don't have sphere pans, you can fill the cupcakes more to create the dome.. Idk... I've never made them.  And it seems I'm really chatty this week, as opposed to my usual read through and off to the next post.. Lol!  Hth!!:)

Welcome to CakeCentral.

Sphere (round) cakes are a booger.  Yes, they are incredibly cute, but they are still a booger to get just right.  Professional bakers who sell these cute little ball cakes charge a fortune for each mini-cake, and rightly so.

Your client probably wants the "WOW!" factor and may only want to pay the Costco price.   I strongly suggest you make a few before you quote any pricing to a client.

Alternatives to time consuming round mini cakes: Cupcake with a half-dome top

Thank you Apti and cupcakes and kstevens for your input!! Really appreciate it.

It is great to be here and be able to share ideas and insights.

She is a new client and cost is not a huge factor for her.   She is hosting a Wimbledon party and she wants them to look like cupcakes below.   It is a situation where, if I have to buy a special pan etc.  I can factor that cost into it.

I am not a huge fondant baker (I use for toppers - not wraps as much) but it appears it may be necessary....

I have a medium sized wilton ball cake pan and a larger fat daddies sphere but nothing small enough.  I tried to get her to go for a cake but no dice ....she wants the cupcakes and she wants them round.

I have to go to Costco for sugar today (great prices on sugar and flour!) and will look for a pan.

I looked all over youtube but never thought of Christmas balls :)

I am going to have to bill these as small cakes and not cupcakes....?

A lot of work so thinking $8 p $10 each.

I see fat daddios and wilton have a pan for round cakes - thank you so much you guys!!

You are most welcome!    We'd love to see pics of the final tennis balls.
