Has anyone EVER had a problem with the consistency of Americolor Navy Blue AIRBRUSH color? I was expecting water-like consistency, like all my ChefMaster airbrush colors, but this is so THICK!!!
I paid $8.99 for this 9 oz. bottle of Americolor Navy Blue AIRBRUSH color at Kitchen Creations in Farmington, MI a few weeks ago. When I had my buttercream icing covered cake ready to airbrush, I was horrified to discover the color I pour out was VERY THICK; close to gel paste consistency!!! I put a couple drops in a tiny bottle with vodka and shook the crap out of it. The color flecks stuck to the sides, along with few bubbles. I tried the same with water; same result. My nephews grad cake was due in 2 days and since I was working full time, I had -0- extra time to spend on any problems; I still had to make the other decorations!
When I called the store with the problem and asked about a refund the 2 ladies that work there said I'd have to call Americolor for a refund, because they (store) don't give refunds for any edible items and it's not their fault if the product is bad. When I asked if they could call them instead because they have a business relationship, they said no :(
I emailed Americolor, along with pics of the bottle, mfr codes, UPC #, etc. AND side view pic of a drop of the color on a paper towel to show it's consistency (it didn't run like water, it just sat there like gel paste). They called me and said they checked that batch and no one else called with a problem. The lady said to just put it in the airbrush cup and that it would work it's way down into the airbrush via gravity. It did NOT. It would NOT come out of my airbrush without clogging and sputtering (testing on paper towel), even with the pressure turned all the way up, like she suggested, AND taking the airbrush all apart to clean it beforehand. I cleaned it again and tried some ChefMaster; it came out fine. Cleaned it AGAIN, tried the Americolor; it clogged, spitted & sputtered again. I DON'T have a cheap/wimpy airbrush/compressor either; it's a Harder & Steenbeck Ultra & Iwata compressor.
Before I call Americolor back this week to tell them I want a refund, I wanted to get CC members opinions. PLEASE & THANK YOU.
P.S. I ended up having to re-design my nephews cake WITHOUT navy blue airbrush color, which was one of his school colors, and refunded my sister some $ because I felt so bad/guilty. ;(
