Hi everyone!
Sort of a busy week for me! We made these adorable mini cakes for the first time for a photo shoot. I can't wait to receive the professional photos but for now here's one I took:
Also made these cow cupcakes for a baby shower!
I'll be finishing the rest of my orders tomorrow! Can't wait to see everyones work!
I'm working on a zombie brain for my nephew's 7th birthday. I'm doing a candy melt shell in a brain mold and putting cake and buttercream inside. I'll post a photo tomorrow when it's all done.
This was my project last weekend. This was my first square fondant cake. I was a little bit afraid of the corners, but I used the corner method I found on Artisan Cake Company's blog, and it turned out great!

Here's the zombie brain!
It's chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream inside. The "blood" is decorating gel. I'm super happy with how it turned out! I really like working with candy melts. The party is in a couple hours; I can't wait to see his reaction! I'll get a photo of it after it's cut.
Here's the inside of the brain:
He loved it. I had a small moment of panic when we got in the car to go there because it was really hot and I was afraid it was going to melt, but it survived. I'd been planning this one for months; my hubby gave me the brain mold for Christmas a couple of years ago and said I should figure out a way to make a cake with it besides jello and panna cotta. So I found a blog page where somebody did basically this but they didn't put buttercream in it. I did a couple practice ones, first without buttercream and this time I nailed it!
can't post pics and words...humm
....it wad a marble pound cake with buttercream ruffles and topped with a lace sugar shoe and orchids
Hi everyone :-) I have been absent from FNCC (and the site as a whole) for a couple of weeks due to all the BS that was going on such as having full access to others profiles. I wasn't going to come back to the site but I do miss FNCC.
@joeyww12000 your cakes looks great! What clean work!
@SweetShop5 your mini cakes and cows are adorable :-)
@LaurenK314 pretty cake and love your flowers.
@cara1982 that bear is just too cute for words!! The fur effect is awesome!
@Dar917 great job on that zombie brain! That looks like a mold that I need to have.
@Creativeconfectioner great sugar work!
I have been busy while I have been MIA from the site. I made chemistry themed sugar cookies and a cake for an intersession class at the university. The cake is a repeat of the Erlenmeyer flask I did a few weeks ago but this time I used a cool new product, Rolkem Lumo Gel, it glows under UV light :-) It was a hit with the students.
After that was a farm themed birthday cake with a sloth making an appearance as the birthday girl apparently loves farm animals and sloths. All the animals were really fun to make.
I did a 3D Lego fairy cake where I used wafer paper for the first time. It was the perfect medium to keep her wings lightweight. I brushed the paper with a bit of shortening then dusted with periwinkle blue and pearl luster dusts.
This week I made gold medal sugar cookies for an elementary school's fun fair, a simple butterceam cake with peonies and a hummingbird and daffodil birthday cake. The hummingbird is based on artwork I found in an online search. I drew it with edible markers and then used vodka and a paint brush to try and achieve a water color effect.
Sorry for the long post but had to catch up! Pictures to follow as I know better than to try and post pictures plus text..
Hi everyone. Great cakes! Makes me wanna bake again lol...
I haven't done many orders recently but have been experimenting a lot with flavour combinations and new techniques as I was sort of tired of the usual stuff. And it really helps bringing back the fun of baking. No pressure, no judgement and many happy friends getting freebies hahaha.
Today I had my neighbour's son over to do cupcakes for a school bake off. He's 10 and never made a cake or cupcakes in his life. So I agreed to stand next to him, tell him what to weigh, mix and do. It took 4 agonising hours as I was determined not to lay hands on anything (people in school know I'm baking much and I want to be able to say honestly "He did EVERYTHING himself" if anyone asks).
He did an amazing job and was so patient...
My middle daughter got engaged yesterday - here the cake I did for an informal family celebration today. I also did a beginners royal icing course with Ceri Griffiths on Friday - the lovely deep purple Renshaw sugarpaste didnt photograph well on my phone and my piped shells look more like slugs but I'm sure improve with practice. It was a great day.[postimage id="4106" thumb="900"][postimage id="4107" thumb="900"]
