I'll be making a buttercream birch for a wedding.  They don't want any fondant.  I'm thinking of thickening my buttercream to make some of the bark look like it's peeling off...someone suggested using chocolate curls or frozen buttercream.  Just wondering if anyone has used either of these techniques.  Or maybe you have other ideas? Thanks!

Chocolate curls would work well, buttercream probably wouldn't work as well.
