Hi,

I am currently researching recipes for my first wedding cake. I am making a tiered cake for my husband's goddaughter's wedding in June.  I bake a lot but know that wedding cakes need to be a different consistency/texture than say box cakes in order for them to hold their shape and not collapse under the weight of wedding cake decoration. What cakes/fillings/frostings do you recommend?

Do you have any tips to avoid potential problems? I need all the help I can get. Doing anyone's wedding cake would be very important to me but this is for family so even more so.

Thank you in advance!

You can use any cakes for tiered cakes.  It's not the density of the cake that matters as much as the support system inside the cake.  The tiers are not laying on top of the cake below it but on the support system.

That posted before I could finish. Anyway, what decorations are you using?  If they are large enough to crush the cake, you can put a support for them as well.
