I wanted to express my gratitude to all the wonderful bakers who share their experiences and expertise. I’ve gained immeasurably from the wealth of information here on CC.
Armed with the information I’ve soaked up from this site, and the answers / suggestions provided to my posted questions, I took a deep breath and entered my first state fair competition as an amateur hobby baker.
I was simply setting my sights on not being the worst entry ...
Imagine my surprise at receiving the First Place Ribbon in my category! I'm still completely dumbfounded … 1st competition and only 2nd cake I’ve covered in fondant. There is no way I could have pulled that off without all the help of the posters on this site.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all who take the time to patiently answer the questions of all the new bakers such as myself!
Congratulations!!!! We KNOW you invested a ton of time/planning/dreaming/stressing and it paid off with a 1st place! Well done.
Sure ... Happy to share pics. Have make the disclaimer that it's only 2nd fondant and and maybe 15th 'decorated' cake so far. There's lots I would have done different ... but I learned a ton along the way. With the exception of the licorice lace holding the lei together, and the photos that were sugar sheets mounted on fondant squares, everything was done in fondant then hand painted or airbrushed.
(Oh ... And I'm completely open to suggestions and feedback on ways to improve if anyone is so inclined.)
Great job! You have so many thoughtful details all over. I really like your hut it looks so nice I would like to stay in it for vacation! Is there indoor plumbing?
Pastrybaglady ... It most certainly has indoor plumbing. And 24 hour 'hut service' for late night snack cravings. :-)
