Hi, I'm planning to make a cake this week for a friend's birthday. Am planning a chocolate cake and was thinking to make a salted caramel swiss meringue buttercream for the filling, but would really love to do this gorgeous blue ombre effect for the outside (which would be coloured vanilla SMBC). So I'm wondering if the flavour combo (chocolate cake, salted caramel frosting and vanilla frosting) would be too much? Or should I stick with either salted caramel/vanilla? Thanks :)

I think it would taste good :) I think it makes it not so sweet and rich, with the vanilla offsetting the rest of the cake.  I do this with my cupcakes all the time! :)  If you want, you could try a vanilla bean frosting on top instead of just plain vanilla.  Either way, it sounds yummy!

I've used this combination many times and it's always a HUGE hit. I also do a SMBC. Have fun baking!
