Hello!  So I am helping my friend with a school cupcake contest.  However, she does not know anything about cake.  She decided to make a lamb cupcake which has marshmallows, gumdrops, and licorice.  She then decided to make the cake red velvet, she bought a Betty Crocker cake mix and then read the rules of the contest: if you use a cake mix you must add ingredients other than the box instructed eggs, water, and oil.  She wants to add something that will make the red velvet cake fruitier or something that is a good combination with the decorations.  We are making these tomorrow, any good suggestions??

Replace some of the oil with applesauce, it helps with moisture and reduces fat!

Use buttermilk instead of water and use butter instead of oil.  The flavor is amazing.
