How Would I Criss Cross The Handles Of A Carved Axe And Hammer?

They will be 2 separate cakes and one needs to cross over the other...like  th

 

is logo. The cakes will be 3d, not flat, so obviously one will need to be raised a bit at one end. Got any ideas that will still look good? 

 

Also, does anyone have a pic of something similar...need some ideas for the look. I was thinking silver for the metal parts then I'd use wood grain edible image for the axe handle and the hammer would be wrapped in "leather". 

 

Also, tips on making the silver look realistic...shiny, not flat.

I would make sure I have a stiff cake board and put support dowel where they intersect to carry the weight of the top cake.
