I have had my share of so called "ugly cakes", I called them "my first time trying to decorate cakes" :-P.  The one thing that I have learned over the years is that some of the ugliest cakes (thanks mom) tasted truly amazing!

Happy Holiday Baking Everyone!

I'm really glad I haven't posted any of my recent cakes since I'm starting over after 2 dominant hand surgeries.  This post makes me sad. I'm sure her child loved it and thought she was his hero for making him that cake.

For future reference for other posters...

Perhaps the better thing to do - rather than using the words UGLY CAKE in the subject line - would have been to simply ask "Can anyone identify what this cake is supposed to be?"

If you think the cake is ugly you are certainly entitled to your opinion.  That doesn't mean you have to share it.  Just because you added later that the 2 year old loved it and the mom rocked doesn't mean it doesn't completely hurt the mom's feelings that you said the cake was ugly.

That cake is a Super Mario-themed cake.  I may have been the decorator….

Being too old to know about the Einstein's ship, I thought it was a Bar-B-Que grill.  But I'll bet the little girl loved it.

If she colored it red, I think we all would have known what it was.....................just thinking out loud.  But some of my best birthday memories (and the reason I decorate today) is because of all those home made birthday cakes from Mom.

I look back at my first cake 4 years ago and cringe....we all start somewhere and improve over time!
