Black & red are crazy colors to get. You just have to keep adding color til you get the color you want. Sometimes for red I will add several shades of red (eg. Red Red and Christmas Red) to get the color I need. HTH

Sometimes letting the icing sit overnight can help. Im not sure what type of icing you made but for SMBC, i find that refrigerating it and then remixing it while its cold results in the color getting darker. However, it is to be noted that when trying to achieve a dark red or black you still have to use enough gel coloring. one more thing, to achieve a deep black color without using up your gel color, I have read that you could start out by mixing cocoa powder into the icing before adding the color. hope this helps
