Hi

I have been asked to make a yacht cake for a friend's 50th Birthday Party.

The picture they have supplied has a suspended fly deck where the skipper can steer from but it also has a small bar and stools etc.  It sits out over the back deck.

I am comfortable with carving the hull and decks etc for the main part of the boat .... but not sure how to support the suspended fly. ( I want to keep the whole thing edible).  Should I make the entire fly deck out of gum paste? and support the back portion of it with sugar sticks?

Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

i'm not sure -- i googled "yacht with fly deck" but i'm still not positive what you are describing -- could you get there with gingerbread? depends on how big this is and exactly what it looks like -- only thing is you don't want it to soften and fail -- i made a phonograph with gingerbread pieces for the lid -- real crisp dry fondant, gum paste maybe -- candy clay/chocolate?

best to you
