I am working on 2 First Holy Communion cakes. I am still figuring out designs, I just know they will have gumpaste crosses and roses. I will post pictures when I am done.
AJust finished this today, and am working on another cake for this sunday :) it's a christening cake for a friend's son.

AStill prepping icing and fondant for a wedding, anniversary, and birthday cake for tomorrow. I work late at night when the weather starts to turn warm. Soon, I'll be on a completely dusk to dawn schedule when it comes to weekends.
Awww...Matty that's just adorable! I love how you got the logo on there too!
Norasmom...I find those to be the hardest cakes because there are so many traditional designs that people are expecting to see. I'll look forward to your take on it!

ASo lovely Matty.
Cat, I meant to comment on your skull last week! I have a friend who loooooves that theme.
Nothing for me this week, donation next week, and an uninspiring football/cat/train one for next week :-/
In the meantime it's back to coats on, it's 9degrees C in the uk.... No problem in working in the day here!!
Thanks Ana,
It's really hot here so working has to be done with the place shut up and a/c on or everything melts. It's 34c here. I have to start working on sugar flowers for Mother's Day cupcakes for an event this upcoming Saturday night. The following week is clear but then I three...one for my son's 13th birthday (paintball) and one for an end of the year baseball party followed by one for baby's 1st birthday (luau/giraffe themed). So I'm going to enjoy what time off I do have this month!

Aww thanks! Your cake is so cute! Dumplings! :) what does the cake say? We learned how to write and speak chinese in gradeschool before but i've never practiced it. It's one of my biggest regrets :( but i can still understand a little bit of the language. Not Mandarin or Cantonese, but Fukien.

Thanks Matty it says:
"Wishing you great success and have a bright future." On the sides and Wu Pei Hoang (not sure if I spelt Hoang right) in the middle.
Pei was impressed with my Chinese I only practiced about 45 minutes. I was just glad it came out as good as it did. One of the co-workers wrote it out for me so I had something to copy.
Sweetshop5 you have been busy. They are beautiful!
 Marian
Great cakes, as per usual, everyone. I have been puddling over an undersea cake to cart with me to Queensland this week for my Dad. I will post a pic later as the icing is just setting the decorations in place. I think I must be the slowest decorator in history. I puddle for days, and sometimes weeks over my decorations.
In the meantime I got hungry and made a spiced sponge roulade with roasted rhubarb and mascarpone cream. Don't you just looooove the pretentious ways recipes are presented nowadays. Years ago it would just have been a swiss roll with rhubarb. Tastes YUM regardless.
O.K. here is the cake. I have been trying to learn to do faces and am failing dismally. Didn't matter with the mermaid as she needed to look fishy anyway. I get one feature right but by the time I have finished the next one the previous feature is squashed out of shape. Tried modeling chocolate and that was worse as I had to keep putting it back in the fridge to harden every 2 minutes.
Kat I'm jealous. We've dropped to 23C during the day now and it is cold.
ACazza1 that's a gorgeous cake! Love the details :)
Here's my last cake for the weekend! Woohoo! First time making a flower in a pot cake. It was not bad, but i did have a frustrating time assembling the orchids to the stem as they kept drooping because of the weight. I was using 3 floral wires wrapped in floral tape. After trial and error, I finally used a bamboo skewer as the main stem. Much better :) not bad for my first try! It's for my MIL's bday, she loves green! Hehehe hope she likes it!

Love the diver!!
Amazing detail on everthing....
23c is indeed cold.... but that's our summer!! :( I spent my early childhood and teen years in the Mediterranean, so British weather doesn't agree with me, even though I was born here and have been back for 20 years!
matty, I had forgotten how much I like flower pot cakes until I saw yours. I did one about 15 years ago and want to practice some orchids so I might steal your idea, I think. I'm sure your MIL will be rapt. The funny thing is that I did the above cake for my Dad after wracking and wracking my brain for an idea and your cake would have been perfect. Normally have to mail his cake but am actually flying over to see him and Mum in Queensland this week and leaving hubby to fend for himself.
......well, I have done quite a bit of cooking for him.
Lovely cakes everyone, I didn't have one this week . I did teach a workshop on Monday though so I didn't go a complete week without caking.
Cazza I am afraid it won't be much warmer here in QLD for you . It only got to 19 today and it is currently 9 degrees. I have the aircon switched off for the first time in months. Yayyyyyyy.
Chelle
Chelle, the only difference I can see in your weather to mine is that you guys are getting a lot more rain. The temps are about the same, maybe 1-2 less over there than here. I thought about visiting you but I am on a flying visit. I had not intended to be over this year but Mum and Dad pulled out of coming here. I AM going to meet you at the conference next year, barring disasters.
I am very much looking forward to conference and meeting you too Cazza, we have been having bake sales at bunnings raising money for the national Committee, and we are off to a high tea and fashion parade next weekend to support the State committee. I have to bake again this week , for another stall on the weekend.
More ginger anzacs and Jam drops .

Hiya, a bit late but this was this weekends work.
I kept messing with it as it was the first cake where I just couldn't get a solid idea of what it was meant to look like before I started.
The birthday girl was delighted with it though so I'm happy.
(this pic was before tidying up and cleaning off the cornflour dust)
