I have been asked to make cake of Shard (owl) from Legends of the guardians!!!

I have never made such a difficult cake before and need to source this properly but cannot find the right videos or tutorials. I am not sure if I am just googling wrong!

ANyone have an idea how to make this owl to stand and make the feather effect?
