Crisp, Modern Look To Sugar Flowers

I really adore the crisp, modern look of the petals on flowers made by the amazing bakery, Yummy Cupcakes and Cakes (photos below).  Does anyone know how to get this effect?  For example, do people think using a pasta roller to get a very uniform thickness to the gumpaste would help?  Clearly there seems to be minimal, if any, use of veiners.  The petals look very smooth, almost like paper but flexible if that makes sense.  It also seems like there would not be a lot of thinning out the edges.  What do you guys think?  Any ideas are appreciated!

The gum paste just needs to be rolled thin, smooth cuts, and then the edges thinned even more. The centers more tightly placed and then looser as you work your way out. Some of them furled here and there and added to the base with drying time in between layers. It is a painstaking process for sure but I feel it is very much worth it to get realistic looking sugar flowers. HTH

I'd use flowerpaste where you can get it rolled really really thin, that's what I use anyway.  I can do roses with gumpaste but cannot get it rolled out as thin.  they look gorgeous!

Uh oh, I'm revealing myself as a newbie here and maybe it's a difference between countries, but what's flowerpaste?  It seems you are saying that's different from gumpaste.  Please enlighten me!  And thanks to both of you who replied =D.
