The cake in my avatar was fashioned after a children's coloring book page.  Chocolate cake with chocolate icing and a few easy fondant accents.  It was actually a birthday cake for a girl born on Thanksgiving Day.

Round cake with a half ball cake on top carved just a little to shape the head.

The feathers were painted on a flat sheet of dried gumpaste cut to look like feathers.

I went looking for Indian corn cupcakes like these: http://catyscupcakes.blogspot.com/2010/09/indian-corn.html and found these candy corn cupcakes which I like even more! http://sugarturntable.com/?p=1401 I think it should work as a round cake with a circular trench dug for the filling.

Awesome idea, especially for a cake.  I've got a couple birthday cakes to make around Thanksgiving time, I'm definitely doing this for one of them. Thanks for sharing!
