Hi, I could really use some help, please! I am trying to buy square cake pans and am now in information overload, I think. I need a set of square cake pans to make a three tiered cake. I don't know if I should get 6, 9, 12 or 8, 12, 16 or something else and then if I should get 2" or 3" deep. I only make a few wedding cakes a year so I don't want to buy a ton of different sizes. I think pans to make a cake something like this or this would be perfect. Just something nicely proportioned. Advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I definately prefered 2" deep pans and like the combination of 6, 9, 12 or 14.
It depends on how many servings you want to end up with. A 6,9,12 gives you just over 100 (if I remember right) not counding the top tier.
Most tiered cakes (wedding) look best with a 6" top tier, not 8.
An 8, 12, 16 is going to serve about 200! Do you need that much c ake?
Thank you! I do need that much cake, but she wants me to supplement with sheet cakes. So any size is okay. You're right about the 6" top layer. I don't want the whole cake to look short and flat.
