I am wanting to use meringue as a frosting on my cake for my daughter, because she really does not like regular frosting. As anyone use this before?

Every time! I prefer SMBC. If you Google SMBC recipe by FromScratchSF you'll find a really informative post about it.

I think she meant meringue on it's own, but as AZCouture said, SMBC tastes much much better than buttercream alone :) - if you intend to use Only meringue, make it with hot syrup, so it cooks the egg whites, and whip it to be firm, or use powder meringue. I think it will be fine! - In Chile, there's a very popular cake called Tres Leches, and it has Meringue frosting which is lightly toasted with a torch. It's really yummy.
