So I plan to bake and crumb coat my daughter's bday cake the night before. Any tips on how to keep the cake tasting fresh and holding together in preparation for the decorating the next day? Should I freeze the cakes after I bake and before I cut and add the filling? Any good buttercream recipes or the Costco type frosting? Thanks a bunch!

Your cake should be fine if you fully decorate the day before the party. I do that all the time and pop the cake in the fridge when done. I think it "seals" the flavor in the cake. As for recipes there are so many on this site. Do a search and you are sure to find one you like.

Just bake it, crumb coat it, wrap it in plastic. I NEVER bake same day, cakes take at least a day to settle and develop their flavor. No refrigeration necessary, it can actually dry it out.
