AHello I'm new to thinks like this and I need help I'm making a cake for my friend it's going to a straw hat cake (one piece straw hat ) and I was wondering how I could make it look like it ? Please help

you could pipe it in a basket weave pattern

 

or you could press a texture mat against fondant to get the straw looking hat surface

 

or you could use a paring knife to make hatch marks on either buttercream or fondant to get that look

 

then when you color over it it will take on the appreance of straw

Thank you.  I was always kind of sad that this particular cake didn't garner any comment when I first posted it.  Probably had more to do with when I posted it.

So this! I was just talking about that the other day. I once posted a cake that was gone in less than a minute. No one ever even saw it.
