brake/break - You take a "break" from work and go for a walk. You fix the "brakes" on your car.

loose/lose - My belt isn't tight, it's "loose". Did you "lose" your keys?

Sorry, when people consistently using the wrong words it drives me batty!

One of my biggest pet peeves! I'm always correcting my nieces about that. They insist that they know how to speak proper English but butchering the language is how they choose to speak. Apparently that's what's cool and I'm not. lol

I have friends from around the world, and the only ones that ever spell this atrociously are the ones that speak English as their first language. Imagine my horror when I saw that my daughter's first grade teacher spelled spinach as 'spinage'. I was not sad to hear she left teaching at the end of that year.

Also, my inlaws' inability to spell it right was a huge factor in naming my children. I also had to resort to Kyle with my younger one, the older one was not so fortunate and gets all kinds of butchered attempts on holiday cards.

IRREGARDLESS!

People who use that word are often misunderestimated by others, but you know what they say: fool me once, shame on you, can't get fooled again.

My FIL calls my daughter Alyssa, Alisha, or Melissa. And my grandpa pronounces it  Uh-Lisa. And I really wanted my Kyle to be Keith!

This thread is so funny!  I'm REALLY glad to know there are others who have the same problem as me with misspelled words!  My husband is always poking me and telling me not to say anything when in a restaurant because I have a fit when I go to where there are handwritten menus and a lot of the words are misspelled.  I was a supervisor when I first started working and had to proofread other people's typing and it drove me nuts to see the bad spelling, the bad grammar....I now find myself always correcting it if only in my own mind!  My mother and father-in-law were always good at saying warsh for wash, and my husband often does it, too.  My kids are always joking with him and asking if he has warshed his car lately!!  He's getting better because of the constant teasing, but it slips out every now and again.  But I'm not perfect either and am sure I make mistakes that I'm not aware of.

Some neighbors of mine would bath their kids, rather than bathe them... But, irregardless, they would warsh them in the tub.

Einstein failed school but he was a genius!!!

That's actually a myth, Einstein did very well in school.

To borrow from Skeletor, this will just have to be one of those things that he "doesn't know that he doesn't know."

Q; "Can I have that?"

A; "Yes you can, but no you may not!"

This rankles so much with all our nieces/nephews and godchildren, that our Godson ONLY ever asks us for things with the prefix "may I"......he says "can I" to everyone else!!!

I BROUGHTmy money with me, where I BOUGHT the goods.

...and the classic, statioNERY; which is paper etc bought from a stationers, and a statioNARY item that is not moving.

I even saw in a local supermarket the 'confectionary' sign above the sweets and chocolate;  seeing as confectionery is bought from a confectioners....

...and in the UK now most dairy products use the spelling yogurt, rather than the traditional yoghurt.  There are lots of items where it is now accepted to use the American spelling rather than the British one.

There are no comments that could be construed as hurtful, by any reasonable human being. I can see them being embarrassed, and I hope they are so they can learn the proper way. And I will say that I am offended that they won't learn the proper way.

See, there you go! Were you hurt when you found your belief incorrect, that it was a myth? These folks who spell things wrong are under the belief that their spelling is correct way to spell it, I don't see any reason they should be anymore hurt upon discovering the truth of spelling and word usage, than you were when you discovered Einstein really did quite well in school. Unless you are also calling them stupid, obtuse, or crybabies, or bleeding hearts? That's HARSH! I just assumed they couldn't spell.... SMH....
