Hello all! I need some help (what else is new..lol) I have never used piping gel...that's right never
I went and bought some in a little container. Now what do I do?? lol I mean how do most of you use it? Do you mix it with anything? I do have the Paste colors for coloring. Any help or advice is most needed ![]()
TIA
Beth
You can add some in you BC when writing on a cake or doing stringwork..it gives it elasticity. You could also just mix coloring with piping gel and use that for writing as well! Another option for piping gel is to use it as glue...let's say, for instance, you want to put those little dragees on the side of a cake...put a dot of piping gel on the side of the side, then add the dragee..it holds it in place! there are many uses for that stuff!
Another use for the gel is transfers. If you have a picture that you'd like to transfer onto a cake - say a picture from a coloring book - something that your going to fill with stars or stained glass effect - stuff like that. Anyway, put a piece of wax paper over the picture (remember the picture will transfer backwards so be careful if it contains writing)and secure it with tape on your worksurface (so neither paper moves while working on it). Then you use a parchment bag - make sure the tip is VERY small #3 or #2- put some clear piping gel in the bag and just trace the picture. After you've traced it - pull the wax paper up and turn it over and place it on the cake where you want it. At that point - take a small very soft paint brush and brush over wax paper where the piping gel is to make sure it adheres to the cake. Once it's all done - slowly pull the wax paper off the cake - the gel will stay on the cake and now you can decorate it as you like. It's really cool and allows you to do pictures even if you're not so good at drawing. ![]()
A tip on the wax paper - you know how when you tear off a piece of wax paper from a roll it has a kind of curl to it? When your tracing the picture - make sure the curl is against the picture so when you go to flip the wax paper and put it on your cake - the natural curl of the paper is curling up and not down - digging into your cake
. Sorry for the long post. ![]()

I had never thought of using it to transfer pictures!! Wonderful idea. ![]()
I tint the gel blue and use it for making water in ponds etc...
