I've got my cake chilled and ready to apply fondant.  However the top probably has too much frosting on one side and it looks uneven.  Is there a way to remove excess even though it is chilled?  The icing has butter in it so it's pretty firm after having chilled for 24 hours.  I hope someone can help me.  Thanks!

You could try and use a sharp knife, heated in boiling water and wiped dry, to cut away some icing. Or, you could add more to even it out.

let it come to room temp & fix it

it doesn't  take but a few minutes for the outside to warm up

i mean if you are going to cover it all up with fondant anyway--should be fine
