Hey everyone,

I'm a self taught baker but I was wondering if there is a special ratio when coming up with your own flavors/ cake batter.   With all the cupcake shops popping up I was wondering how they come up with there own flavors or do they just use recipes they found.

i was also thinking is there a basic batter I could make then adjust for flavors...

thank you!!

I think a lot of cakers on CC will suggest WASC (look it up in the recipe section). I've never used it but I hear WONDERS about here on CC. In my cake classes, I suggest experimenting until you find a great chocolate, vanilla, lemon, and strawberry flavor. Then, just play with your fillings and frostings to give variation to your cakes. I have over 60 flavors on my flavor list and the majority of them are based in chocolate and vanilla flavors with different filling/frosting combos. I hope that helps!
