Hi. I'm tired of using two large bottles of liquid red food coloring to make my red velvet cake. How much of a small jar (or how many jars) of the icing color do I need for a 9" two-layer cake? Which red should I use?

I live in a rural area and cannot find the larger, 1-oz jars.

I'd like my cake to be a deep red, not a light orange-red.

Thank you!!

The best thing to do is to get your some Americolor Super Red .  With it you only need about 1 possibly 2 tsp. for a two layer 9" cake.  I am sorry I can't tell you the exact amounts because I always make large batches of red velvet.

I use the wilton'' no taste'' red and follow Martha stewarts red velvet cupcake recipe which uses only half teaspon for 24 cupcakes. I have made  large cakes with the same recipe too.
