AHello. My husband has just told me he is going to buy me a stand mixer, I am very excited as currently only use a cheap hand mixers which are always burning out on me! I have been doing some research and am completely confused as to what to get. I am from England and kitchen aids are very very expensive here, however I have come across the kenwood kmix which appears similar but I can get for £100 cheaper then the ka and also has a fold function which looks usefull.

Has anyone got any experience with the kmix or can recommend another mixer? I would love a ka but my budget just can't stretch that far.

Here is the kmix if anyone's interested http://www.johnlewis.com/231257610/Product.aspx. -- updated link below

If you look at the spec, the motor is only 500w

This one is cheaper and has larger motor, so it's less likely to burn out, I think.

and this

Although the one you linked to *does* look cool!!  :D

Mind you, having just had a quick look at all the Kitchen Aid machines, they're only 300w or 500w....

So, actually, I'm no help whatsoever!!!!

I'm a Kenwood gal! LOL!!

AThank you for your reply. I am so confused because I thought the higher the power the better but like you said the ka ones iv found are 300watts. I didn't know if the higher wattage for the other kenwood machines was more for the diff attachments you can get.

Eeeek it's a big investment for me and its so confusing lol.

AI have this one and haven't had any issues with it whatsoever!

My sisters boyfriend tried to scrape the bowl with a knife when he was helping me make gumpaste which made the gears in the motor break (which would happen with any mixer!!). Andrew James were fantastic, all I had to do was email them a picture of the broken gears and they sent a replacement out straight away.

I have 2 kenwood chef majors, one is thirteen years old and the other one is a few months old. Never had a problem with either of them.

I do cakes, fondant and bread dough and my kenwood works perfectly every time.

My mum too had a Kenwood for almost 25 years, and enjoyed using it.

Oh a Kenwood will last YEAR AND YEARS AND YEARS....  I have one that is 41 years old (only a year younger than me!)  I advertised on Freecycle to see if anyone had one that they didn't use any more, in the back of a cupboard. And remarkably, someone replied.

I've since had it serviced and 'pimped' -  it's now pink and glittery and is STILL running as well as ever.

Here's a link to it:

Hi, I'm assuming you've already got your mixer by now but just had to say my hubby bought me a KMix for my birthday and it's the best thing I've ever had!! Sad but true!! I love it and use it several times a week for all sorts of things. The folding function is brilliant as it also lets you add in fruit without breaking it up (for instance in scones etc).  Top vote for the KMix.  Now if only I could afford to get a second bowl ...
