I just had a call from a customer with a pretty detailed 1st Birthday cake due tomorrow.  She caught me just before I was going to stack and fill (a bit behind schedule for me. whoops!) and wanted to know if the cake would hold up well until Sunday so they had a bit more time to feel better. She and her husband were just over it, along with the birthday boy. and her father had just spiked a fever. Yuck.

I had no problem telling her we could reschedule and that really meant the world to her.  She said that they didn't want to cancel because they had all that money in the cake and family was coming in from out of town, but since I told her I could freeze her layers and they would be fine and the gumpaste work would save without a problem. Plus, the cake fits into my schedule in two weeks fine. She caught her family before they left on a 5 hour drive, so everything is good. Best thing was how happy she was (as happy as someone four days into the flu can be) and almost surprised  that I was willing to work with her to reschedule. Did I compromise my 'rules of business' for her? heck yeah.  but look how much i gained with relationship building. She even popped an extra $20 onto her last payment as a thank you. icon_wink.gif

AWe all got shots but my two kids were home sick with what I think was a mild case of the flu this week. They said they felt like their bones hurt, so the shot probably kept them from getting a full-blown case. I haven't caught anything myself, but if I did it wouldn't be fun to try to get any thing done when you feel like that. I doubt that the clients would want a germ cake anyway.

I had the flu about 2 months ago!!! It was terrible because I had fever of 103.8 F. I had chills and it seemed as if my whole body was shaking even into my bones!! I know what the kids were saying when they said their bones hurt!! The worst part for me is the lingering cough which never seems to want to go away. I am just now getting over the cough which lasted almost 7 weeks.

Glad everything worked out for the people who put their cake on hold. I know they appreciated your kindness. Good thing they waited to pick up their cake because you could have caught their flu!!! Worked out good for you and for them!! A 20 dollar tip ain't bad either!!!

costumeczar, Hope your kids are feeling better in no time!!! You guys were smart to take the flu shot!!!  Stay healthy everyone!!!
