Hi there,
Today is my day off! I had an anniversary cake due yesterday so I'm done for this week. I have two next week..an "under the sea" themed birthday cake and a Mickey Sorcerer's Hat birthday cake. Here is the link to the wedding cake this week:

I have no idea if that link works with the new CC...still learning how to get around here. Hope everyone had a great week and have some fun cake photos to share!

Hey y'all
So I am deep into the work for my cousin's wedding cakes for Sunday. Up until today, it has been easy-peasy.
This morning started off rough but I was able to rebound.
The first layer of the base tier for the bride's cake cracked when I moved it over to the cake drum. EEEK! I was able to puzzle piece it back together and the build the rest of the tier. It is almost done/ready for quilting. I just need to polish up the corners & make sure it is truly square & smooth.
One of the layers for the 6in tier of the groom's cake completely tore apart when I tried to level it with my Agbay. All of the chocolate layers that had been frozen were REALLY sticky in the middle & gave me issues. Thankfully, I had an extra 8in round that was from a 3in pan so I revised the design. Instead of a 10in + 6in cake, it is now a 10in + short 8in + half height 6in. I have a pic of it on my G+ page. Here's a link but I'm not sure if that works.

I also managed to cut myself on my Agbay so yeah for sterilizing equipment & waterproof bandaging. Thankfully, I wasn't using it ON a cake at the time I decided to strum the blade with my finger.
So far, I am still on track for the schedule I set. Groom's cake is done. I've started work on the Bride's cake. I have a second tier of the Bride's cake defrosting and I've had better luck levelling/torting the chocolate layers when they are still a little frozen. Hope to finish the base tier and get this second one filled & crumb coated tonight before I shut down.

I love the grooms cake! Sorry to hear that there were so many issues. I always level and torte my cakes before freezing so I don't have to worry about trying to do it while they are thawing out. Glad to hear the hand isn't so bad!
As for me, I got shut down and out when our system failed tonight. My husband works from home and something went really really wrong. So no one had service for about 2 hours tonight and we just got it back up!
Looks like a slow night on here. The Fall seems to be that way. Really busy during summer but then as business slacks off so does participation here.
Still hoping to hear from more of you out there with what you have been doing this week!

Both the cakes you two posted are beautiful! I'm having a slow month so far. I did a Ironman cake for a friends daughter, and that's all I have had in the last week. I had to decline a cake order from a lady who wanted a sculpted horse cake with a budget of $50.00! I tried to come up with another alternative, but she didn't want a smaller basic round cake!! Hope you all have a wonderful week!
It IS hard to turn down business but I just keep trying to remind myself that those are not my clients. My clients are looking for a one of a kind custom cake and realize that it's going to cost the same as a centerpiece of flowers, not as much as a sheet cake from the grocery store. I still feel sort of guilty when I have to say no, tho'. Business does slow down this time of year. I have one a week, with the exception of Thanksgiving, till New Years but weeks like the one coming up are rare...weeks where I have more than one.
The Ironman cake sounds like fun. I'm always SO nervous when I do something that is copyrighted...I just know that I'm not going to get it "right" enough to make the client, much less myself, happy. But I love seeing the ones on here and envy those who dive in and give it a shot and then actually nail it. Very envious.
