Hi there!!

I am looking for some input on the best way to make gold and sliver (or any metallic color) paint for fondant. I don't know if my current technique is the best because the color never seems concentrated enough! What I currently use is a bit of vodka mixed with gold or silver dust powder (and gel food coloring if needed). Is there a better technique?

Hi bellaloco

To get a good colour, you need to paint on to coloured fondant.

I find the best base colour for gold is Autumn Leaf Gel colour by sugar flair and for silver you would need a pale grey or a pale blue can work well.

Rather than mixing the lustre with vodka, brush it on dry, it gives a lovely effect. Dip your brush into the lustre and then work it into a piece of kitchen towel to remove any excess before painting on your fondant.

If you want to buy a paint, Squires Kitchen make a great gold paint.
