Cake Settling - How Long?
Decorating By KSCakeCreations Updated 6 Oct 2012 , 2:21am by KSCakeCreations
Hi all!
My sister is currently in the hospital in labor with her first child! Yay! I am already planning a cake for her when she comes home with my new little niece. I'll be making a cake with fondant for the very first time. (If you can't experiment with family, who can you experiment with? LOL)
My question is, how long should I let the cake settle in the fridge to prevent the fondant from sagging at the bottom?
Also, must I wrap the fondant covered cake if it's going to be in the fridge for a day or so?
I am new to fondant so I appreciate all of the feedback and advice from those of you who are more experienced. Thank you!!!
I usually crumb coat the cake, and refrigerate it until it's "hard," at least a few hours, if not overnight. I then put a thin icing coat on, cover in fondant, then refrigerate that until it's set, before continuing the decorating. I know opinions differ on refrigerating fondant cakes, but I've always refrigerated all my cakes, and never had a problem, and I don't cover it. Hope that helps!

Cakes don't settle in the fridge...
