Changing gears and moving on from the debate........

My niece is coming from Florida this summer and I want to make her a special cake. I thought I would do something with gems. I've bought the Isomalt and mold.

Now I'm wondering if I can do this in my regular cookware or do I need a special type pot. I've read that I shouldn't use wooden utensils, possible using small plastic measuring cups, but any other hints, tips, ect

Also do you put anything on the "gems" to make them shine?

Don't mean to not give you an answer on this but the videos on YouTube say it so much better than i can! Just type in Isomalt and the cakeplay ones are the ones to watch.
