I find this really strange and was wondering if anyone else had this experience. I bought a new jar of the Wilton Red Food Coloring to tint a buttercream red
. The color I got is salmon. I ended up using the whole jar. My bowl is about 12 cups of buttercream. I even tried adding 3-4 drops of the liquid color. Now I have a bitter taste and still have salmon frosting. Any suggestions on what brands you like?

I prefer Americolor's red over Wilton's. Also, you need to let the frosting sit for a couple of days & the red will darken.

I was wasting way too many ingredients trying to make red and black icings and fondants.
IMO it is easier and usually more cost effective to just buy it ready made.
Leftovers freeze well so maybe order some extra for those times you need a red(or black) deco.
