Great to meet you...isn't this a wonderful site! I love your mini cakes. I've done the Wilton classes myself and it has started a whirlwind in my life of a passion I've never known!

I'm 29, work full time at my local Probation Dept., and have a 4 year old beautiful daughter. I fell in love with this art by doing my daughters cakes and just taking some classes with friends. I just got back from a week with Toba Garrett in Manhattan and learned a lot of basic things. The class was expensive, but definitely worth it. I aspire to open a bakery and make this love my life's work.

Best of luck with your decorating!! You're doing a wonderful job!

Welcome to CC!! There is really a great group of people here willing to help and share ideas. I am a SAHM also, our girls are 24, 10, 9, 6, and 1. We have 2 birthdays this weekend. I have been doing cakes for about 10 years off and on, but now it is my livelyhood, just went legal a few months ago to help with extra money. We have a dog and a cat. I taught Wilton for a few years at AC Moore. Can't think of much more. Welcome!!! icon_lol.gif

Hi cakedecor. I love CC too. I have learned SO much here already. I haven't taken any classes yet but I hope to be doing that soon...once I get comfortable handling the bag and have more control. I am trying new tricks and methods that I have seen here right now and practicing piping and that is keeping me busy!

I am 32, soon to be 33. I too am a SAHM and have two DDs, a 4-yr old and an 18 month old. So far I am doing this as a hobby and to build skills so that I can eventually call this my career. Not sure exactly in what way I want to pursue this yet, only know that I do want to pursue it!

It is very nice to meet you. I love this website and have learned so many things on it. I haven't taken any classes, have just kind of taught myself. I love making cakes for my family and friends but don't think I would enjoy it as much if I did it day in and day out and deal with customers. I look for every opportunity to make a cake!

I am formally from Missouri but now live in Virginia. My husband is in the Navy so we move a lot. I am a stay at home mom and we have 3 beautiful daughters, 3, 9 & 13.

Hello! Nice to meet you! I just joined a couple of months ago, but had been reading the forums for a couple of months before that. What a great site!

I finished the Wilton classes at Michael's this past summer, and quickly became addicted to cake decorating! (My DH has been very supportive, but then he likes the fringe benefits of my practicing frequently.) icon_razz.gif We have three cats, who are our kids. I hope to start a small business (Konfection Konnection) when DH finishes his return to school, but for now I just keep practicing on friends and family--and there's a lot of recipes and ideas to experiment with on this site! I've always enjoyed baking, but wish I had found cake decorating sooner--My DH and I are both in our early 40's . . . . icon_eek.gif

Welcome, you will learn a lot hear. The one thing to do is practice. I started when I was 20 but got more into cake decorating over the last 15 years. I have a daughter (icon_cool.gif and son (4). I work full time and love baking and cooking. I am working on my husband 40th birthday party for february. On Sunday I make 5 batches of frosting (vanilla-almond and cheesecake flavors) my arms were tired from sifting 10lbs of powder sugar. I also go to school one nigth a week. In the process of teaching my son to read and write. My husband has his own business.

If you have any questions just ask, you will get one to 20 responses to help you out.

Again, welcome to CC

It's nice to meet you, CakeDecor. I had to smile when I read in your introduction...

"Well cake decorating has always been something I wanted to do and wished I did it sooner!!!! better late than never anyways
I am 26 years old..."

I'm 50 years old and just getting started in this business. I've been the Business Administrator at my church for the past 13 years and have worked with numbers for the past 30--oh, that doesn't feel too good to say that. Anyway, when I turned 50 last April, I decided that I wanted to do something completely different than what I'd been doing for the last 20 years. I seriously thought about interior design, then realized that I didn't want to have the stress that I knew would be involved in decorating projects for other people. I have fibromyalgia and stress is not what I need.

I started decorating cakes in high school, but not too regularly. Just when my kids had birthdays. I was inspired again last June when I made my grandson's 2-year old birthday cake and decided that this is something that I could really enjoy and which would tap into the creative side of me that has lain dormant for too many years.

I've learned SO MUCH from all the "experts" on CakeCentral. I call you "experts" because your knowledge has all come from experience, not just books. Thanks to all of you for being an important part of "this new season of my life."

CakeDecor, keep on treasuring your time with your little ones. As the mother of three grown, beautiful children, I've learned just how fast they do grow up and how much I treasure the memories of their childhoods.

Welcome to the neighborhood...

Welcome cakedecor,
I to love this website. I have learned so much from the community here. I just recently finished Wilton Course 3 and just signed up for the new Fondant and Gumpaste course, I can't wait. I am fairly new to CC. I am 45 and have a blended family with 6 kids. Their ages are 23, 20, 20, 17, 16 and 15. I work full-time at a local community college in a division office. I would love to eventually turn my cake decorating into a business. I look forward to learning more about you.

cakedecor, Wow! I didn't realize you are here in OKC! We may have to get together sometime! Who knows, I have probably seen you before at a Day of Sharing at Ruth's Sweete Justice. I have been decorating for about 3 years now - I got started so that I could make beautiful birthday cakes for my daughter. I took classes at Cake and Candy Connection - I would suggest anyone go there, I learned so much. Anyway, I also do nails (Fingerpaints Nail Salon). It is just a small suite that is occupied only by myself and my daughter (when she is not in school). So I had an instant clientele for cakes when I started decorating. I remember being stressed to the max if I had 2 clients want cakes in the same week. And I turned down a couple of orders at first from people I didn't know (they had my cakes at showers or parties) because I was scared to death I wouldn't be able to please them. Now I have built up a steady clientele (and confidence) and find it is no big deal to do 4 or 5 cakes in a week - often in the same 2 to 3 day time frame. I love decorating but don't intend to make it a full time thing - I also love being a nail tech. and that pays WAY more! My husband is a great help with graphics for my cakes - he can throw things together on the computer in seconds where I would be sitting there in front of the computer stewing about it ALL day.

Are there any more of us from OKC out there? I know RitzyFritz is close by - in Choctaw. We should all try to get together sometime!

Welcome to the "family"! icon_lol.gif My name is Lorraine and I'm a 46 year old mother of 3, grandmother to 1 (and another on the way icon_wink.gif ) and a part-time carer to a 17 year old boy with complex special needs.

I'm a self taught cake decorator and specialise in modelling with paste, particularly little people! My hobby turned into a business in a fairly short period of time. I am now a member of the British Sugarcraft Guild and this year I am starting to demonstrate my skills for various groups and hope to do this even more in the future. I am currently working on online tutorials as well as keeping my customers happy! thumbs_up.gif

I just moved to Chesapeake in July. Are there any good cake supply stores here? We used to live in JAX, FL (moved in 2003) - there used to be a little store off of Blanding Blvd (north of I-295). It wasn't that great though. I was just getting into decorating when we lived there and so I just got most of my stuff from Michaels.

Hello all, interesting reads for sure. I am a SAHM of one beautiful firecracker of a little 3 1/2 year old girl, and expecting a son any day now... icon_smile.gif My DH is retired Navy after 24 years (I married an older man!). I also did a 4 year stint in the Navy, met him, got out, got married.... love it.. May will be 5 years of wedded bliss. Because I married an older man, I acquired 3 beatiful children, one is 24 with a 10 month old, the oldest boy is 14 and the youngest boy will be 9 in a couple of days... my daughter who is 3 1/2 will be 4 in april and my son Noah... due anyday now! I also attend school for an MBA in HR management... in my spare time, hehehehehehehe, I do cakes.. I got into it like many of you, did my daughters 2nd birthday cake.. took me 6 hours to star point that darn dora cake and 9 stars... and now I look at it like it would be nothing... 2 years and many cakes ago though. I am seeking to get legal once my hubby and I decide what he wants to do forever, once he is grown up icon_smile.gif.. until then, my family gains a lot of weight off of practice cakes. So... I am glad to be here and glad to officially be a regular CC member as of Sunday I think. Look forward to many years of cake chat with you all.

When we lived there, we lived in the Mandarin area. We still have friends there. Loretto Elem was a really good school. The area has changed so much though. The Baymeadows area is also a nice area but not sure about the schools. When we left, those were the two most popular places. A lot of people moved to St. John's county because the property taxes were cheaper but I don't think that is the case any more. Where will your husband be stationed? What does he do? If you tell me an area you are looking at, I will call my friend who still lives there and ask her. Good luck with your move - it is always exciting going to a new place (or at least I think so, my kids don't necessarily!) JAX is a lot like here as far as things being right there around you. We moved from JAX, FL to JAX, NC where there was absolutely nothing and then came here to everything again! You can also get season passes to Disney cheap as a FL resident!

Karen, Karen, Karen, I feel your pain.....I live in a small town which is a three hour drive to the closest city. Consequently, I buy most of my cake decorating supplies online.

I have learnt alot from my books and from internet groups and sites such as this one.

I know you'll enjoy it here.

I am 28 years old, no children, living in rural Western Australia.
