Help, Need A Good Carving / Sculpted Cake Recipe!

Hi looking for a recipe for doing a sculpted cake. I want to do it from scatch so no box mix in it. Can anyone help? Looking for chocolate or strawberry flavour! Also should i use buttercream to fill it?Thanx K icon_biggrin.gif

your favorite pound cake recipe would work best in my experience. I have done chocolate pound cake and carved to great success. I only use a very thing layer of american buttercream between the layers otherwise it tends to throw the knife off to much when making precise cuts. The chocolate pound cake recipe I use comes from the cake bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum.

I use RLB's chocolate and yellow butter cakes recipes. I add strawberry essence and pink color to yellow cake recipe for strawberry cake. I once used pureed strawberries and it came out fine. I carve them chilled because they are too soft room temperature. I use IMBC.

that's what I forgot--I like to carve my cakes chilled and sometimes frozen if the cake is soft
