Not sure if this should be in recipes...but wasn't quite sure where to post:

So sometimes im confused on Sell By dates and Expire Dates. I just opened a bag of Gold Medal All Purpose Flour that has "Better if Used By April 29 2012" So, my question is...this would be the expiration date right? As in..throw away the opened bag of flour BY the 29th? Seems silly..but just something i wonder.

"Better if used by" is a suggested date. The company suggests that their product may deteriorate in quality if used after that date. For flour, you can use it without worrying. "Sell by" dates are different. Those are usually for meat, dairy, fish, prepared foods, etc and regulated by an agency.

I always use www.stilltasty.com as a reference for expiration date info.
