Is there a good doctored cake mix recipe for chocolate cake that is moist but does not use instant pudding in the recipe?

My favorite book is The Cake Mix Doctor by Anne Byrn. I used to love her doctored Darned Good Chocolate Cake recipe (without the chocolate chips). Darned Good Chocolate Cake DOES use pudding. Then I tried her Buttermilk Devil's Food Cake. Oh boy! That is our new favorite! It does not use pudding.

A quick online search brought up this blog with the recipe, so I'm going to be lazy and just link to that instead of copying the recipe from my book.

I really don't like adding pudding mix into cakes because they have such a chemical taste. Boxed cakes can survive a nuclear holocaust and still be moist so there really is no reason to have to add a box of pudding. Just use kakeladi's recipe and you will be fine. icon_smile.gif

This is the one I like http://cakecentral.com/recipe/amazing-chocolate-wasc-cake .
There a recipe here on CC called Triple Chocolate Fudge cake which is totally awesome but it does use pudding.

LoriMc~~Everybody raved about the Darned Good Chocolate Cake, but I had some buttermilk one night and decided to use that recipe for a 9x13x4" cake for my niece's soccer celebration (they were 2nd place in the League!). People who'd had my other chocolate cakes ALL liked this one better. It also doesn't shrink as much because there is no pudding, and doesn't seem quite as dense.

I've used it for all my chocolate cakes in the past ten years!
