When making a topper of gumpaste flowers, do you start with a mound of fondant or gumpaste and then attach the different flowers to the mound?

I have been taught that way in toba garrets class. Make the mound of fondant and the arrange the flowers. you can also cover half styrofoam with green fondant and go that way also. covering it green, gives the illusions of gree leaves or grass at base of flower.hth

Thanks, icer101! You answered my question about what color fondant to use. I thought green, felt purple would work (the color of the flowers) if necessary, and a friend thinks it should be the color of the cake.

Thanks again!
