I have been searching recipes, but not having ever tried gingerbread cake/cupcakes, I hesitate to go with one without knowing if it's dark or strong versus light and not-so-strong on the gingerbread flavor!

Does anyone have a tried and true gingerbread cake recipe (for cupcakes)?

There is a light and easy cupcake recipe that tastes like a gingerbread cookie. It is light and not strong like your typical gingerbread. It is from the 101 Gourmet Cupcakes in 10 minutes book by Wendy Paul. (AWESOME BOOK!! LOVE IT!)
1 Box spice cake mix
3 eggs
1/3 cup molasses
1/3 cup oil
1/2 cup milk

Mix it all together. Fill cupcake liners 3/4 full and bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes. Cool and frost. I use an orange cream cheese frosting on the top. Hope this helps!

Thank you! Coincidentally, this is the first project for which I am trying scratch recipes (never baked scratch)!!! I am hoping I can just adjust the yellow or white cake recipes I found by adding molasses and a few spices. I'll definitely post if it turns out nicely.

6 eggs
1-1/3 cup Gingerbread creamer (though if all you've got is cinnamon bun creamer or something along those lines, I don't think you'd miss it)

2 t vanilla extract
2 t butter flavoring (or 1 dram LoRann butter)
