I have been asked to make a cake for a friend's company Christmas party. Their budget is about $75 but cake needs to serve 100. Does this seem reasonable?

Only if it's a sheet cake with limited decorations and then that's stretching it. Tell her you can do something smaller and she can go to Costco for a cake to serve the rest of the crowd.

Wow, that's a $1.33 a serving. Seems unreasonable to me.

Ummmm. . . .no. . . . $75 divided by 100 servings is 0.75 per serving.

NO, that does NOT sound reasonable.

Well, if you buy 3 cake mixes doctor it a little and decorate it with a stencil /powered sugar, then it's reasonable, lol

Gee, I hear that ALL the time. I have $30 for a cake to feed 50 and oh, by the way, I would like it to be a 3D covered in fondant with tons of handcut gumpaste and fondant do dads all over it. I'm getting real good at saying no. However, I always try to give them other options. I've only had 2 people that haven't been happy with the "other options" and went elsewhere. It has reduced my stress because it upset me to work so hard and make nothing to cover my time. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. I don't sell many cakes, but that seemed low to me. I want the experience, but not the stress. I think I will present a counter offer and go from there. I just really wish ppl could understand the time that goes into it.

If somebody told me they needed cake for 100 and had a budget of $75, I'd point them toward Walmart or Costco. $75 would just about cover my ingredients and supplies.

You've got some lovely cakes in your photos, definitely nice enough to attract customers if you want to sell cakes.

Certainly not a reasonable budget. I'm guessing that they usually purchase their cakes from somewhere list costco that has a crazy low per serving price.
