I am getting ready to ice my cake for the final Fondant class and I have a quick question, do I have to use buttercream on the cake before I finish it with the fondant.
Please help with this question.

You need to crumb coat it. I always use my favorite buttercream recipe. Be sure that it is frosted smooth so you don't have bumps in your fondant!
