Good Morning,

I am new to Cake Central.

I am making a black, pink and silver pillow cake for a 16th birthday. I bought the Wilton pillow cake pans (expensive). Does anyone have experience with these pans? Is it easier to just carve the cake or use the pillow pans? Is there a certain type of cake mix I should use to make sure they come out in one piece? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, this forum is very helpful but I don't have time to look through all of the posts. Is there any way to search forums?

Thank you!

Maybe you can try the WASC recipe? It is sturdy and holds well and is based on a cake mix.

Here i a tutorial on how to make a pillow cake

For me, I prefer carving the cake because it allows me to get any size and shape I want, and make it look more realistic. However if you are not comfortable with carving a cake yet, the wilton cake pans are a good place to start.

Here is a link to search the forums:

You can also get there any time by clicking the "Forum" tab at the top, then "search" in the purple bar.

When carving a cake, you will definitely want to use a recipe that is firmer and lighter

Here are 2 recipes I haven't personally tried yet, but come reccomended by other CC members:

Jackie,

Do you know how many batches of the WASC I would need to make to make the small and medium pillow cakes?
