Sorry I worded it wrong. The combination of pumpkin and oil is too much. The oil should be reduced, not the pumpkin.

I know that this is not from scratch but I make this every year and everyone loves it. It is actually from Paula Deen. It is her Fried Pumkin Layer Cake except I don't deep fry it. I also add a little more of the pumkin spice. I get requests for this cake.

Pumpkin Cake:
1 (17 to 18-ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 cup pumpkin puree (fresh or canned)
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup vegetable oil
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Cream Cheese and Orange Frosting:
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, room temperature
1 stick butter, room temperature
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons orange juice
1 orange, zested
3 drops yellow food coloring
1 drop red food coloring

Deep fried cake mix? Thanks Kathie, but I thought you were razzing us. I don't follow Paula Deen so I looked up the recipe. You forgot to tell us about the fry batter. Now I know why I don't follow her.

I didn't put the fry part in . Sorry, but this cake is very good. I don't fry mine, never tried it I figured the cake is fattening enough, lol.
