Gah!! I have made FIVE different Strawberry Cake recipes in the past two days looking for THE ONE...

My own version of WASC using white cake mix, & homemade strawberry jam & sour cream. - plain. plain. plain

Paula Dean's Simply Delicious Strawberry Cake - by far had the best flavor but the jello gave it a weird-ish texture. The kids loved it but hubby & I were not sold.

Cake Mix Dr. Triple Strawberry Cake - blah and sort of crumbly

Macsmom's Strawberry WASC version - again - blah with no real strawberry flavor

and lastly....

Strawberry Cake - WASC method posted by Jessi83 - my fave, a more subtle strawberry flavor than the Paula Dean one but still yummy - bummer is it TOTALLY, TOTALLY stuck to the cupcake liners (as in I had to peel the outside of the cupcake off with the wrapper)

Does anyone have any other suggestions??

Have you tried any from scratch besides Paula Deen's? I hear Martha Stewart's is pretty delicious.

No...I haven't tried any scratch although that is 100% my next move. Its just that WASC is such a huge hit I was hoping to find something along those lines...

Do any of the WASC recipes you tried start with a Strawberry Mix as a base or do all call for a white/vanilla mix?

I tried to make a strawberry cupcake and wasn't able to get lots of flavor either. I have read that freeze dried strawberries have lots of flavor - next time I am going to try that. Good luck and keep us posted.

i have also tried many strawberry cake recipes. i actually just had some scraps that i tasted today (cake was made 3 days ago with fresh strawberry filling) and it was delish! All i do is wasc cake and substitute the 1 cup of water for 1 cup strawberry margarita mix (nonalcoholic). So easy and yummy!

This is a trial recipe, just for 6 cupcakes:

It's the Sprinkles recipe, I think, modified a little.

I have 2 strawberry cake versions and both always come out awesome!

The WASC version is:
1 box white cake mix, yellow cake mix or strawberry cake mix (sifted and toss the strawberry bits)
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream
1/3 C oil
4 whole eggs
1 1/3 cup of strawberry purée (I blend a handful of frozen strawberries with water and use that in the mix
1 tsp strawberry extract
1 tsp vanilla extract

If you want more of a pinky colour, add a shot of grenadine or strawberry jello

Sift all dry ingredients together. Add all wet ingredients. Mix well. Bake at 325 until done icon_smile.gif.

You can also have my scratch version (I used this one until I finalized the scratch one that I liked) and both are tried and true! Just pm me with your email if you'd like it! Hope that helps!
