Americolor "Super Black" works great.

Also when you do add color it gets darker as it sits. I've added black and it looked gray so I added more black and it gets pretty dark after awhile. Also I think you can buy black royal icing mix on the internet.

I put red, blue, yellow and brown in to darken it, then add Americolor black. Not sure if Americolor has the black "bitter taste" fi you use too much of it, but I did it that way anyway just in case. icon_wink.gif

I've done it with Wilton using royal blue first and then black but it tasted AWFUL!! It did get nice and black though. Never again...

I make my RI using the meringue recipe. With the powdered meringue recipe, I replace the water with black airbrush color. Works great for red too. You can make small batches.
