My son is a pilot of twin and single engine airplanes. His birthday is in 2 weeks and I'd like to make him a special cake. I have only some experience in the cake deco field, but do well at most basics. Any suggestions??

My husband is also a pilot and he helped me make an airport birthday cake for a friend's son.

I did a sheet cake (the sides were blue and the top was green) and we made a runway with black fondant. We did the runway markings with white BC using the flat side of the basketweave tip (Google image search for runway pictures). We made taxi lights out of blue Jelly Bellies. I did little sprouts of grass with tip 233 (grass tip) and we put toy airplanes in the grass. Then I went around the sides of the cake and piped a white cloud border.

Good luck with the cake and make sure you post pics! PM me if you need any help.
