I'd like to make a cake like this sculpted cat http://cakecentral.com/gallery/2038572 for a friend's son's 8th birthday. I emailed cakecraft through cc but the email got an autoreply that she no longer works at that office, so I am now posting here. I have not ever made a cake like this.

I understand assembling layers and carving in general, though I am wondering if the head, legs, and tail get carved separately and just set alongside the main cake. Is the whole cake then draped with one large sheet of fondant? Any suggestions about how to form the ears so beautifully?

Any and all suggestions are welcome! Many thanks!

Super cute cake - It looks to me like she covered the body with the back top leg, inner front leg and tail, then attached the head and outer front leg while the fondant was pliable. I'd guess the bottom hind leg is white fondant, placed in after the body and legs were covered.

Good luck and have fun!
