I am doing a wedding cake and often wonder what size the cake tiers should be. If I am doing a 3 layer what are the best sizes for each layer.
Should there be a 4" difference or a 2" difference in size, 6" 10", 14"? to give it the best look. I don't like a short fat look to the cake. I like a more regal look. and what about a 4 or 5 tier. Any rule for this????

It depends on the number of servings you need. It's not the size in between the tiers that makes the cake look regal. You can have a 14,12,10,8, and 6 stacked on top of each other. I have seen zillions of those in the gallery. It's all in how it's decorated. The standard height of a cake tier is 4 inches, but they can be taller if you like a taller look. You just have to watch the support system when you start getting into taller cake tiers.
