Freezing Cakes Question

So I heard you could freeze your cake if its too soft for decorating. But my question is that by the time you fill and ice your cake, it would thaw and expand- isn't it going to bulge and ruin your perfect cake? icon_razz.gif

I freeze my cakes all the time and it does make it easier to put on the icing. I've never had a problem with it bulging as it thawed.
