Help!

I am making a mandolin (small guitar) cake, and I am making it a pound cake and covering it in fondant, and then painting/decorating the fondant to look like the actual mandolin.

My questions are:

What type of icing/frosting would you use on a pound cake that will be covered in fondant??
Does it even need frosting???

I am baking the cake today so please help!!!!!!!!! Lol

Thank you so much, I always get the most helpful/useful advice here! This website rocks!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Oh, and if anyone has any other kind of advice about this topic, please feel free to share thumbs_up.gif

You can use any BC or ganache under the fondant.

I like buttercream frosting too - a pound cake is already butter so its a nice match! I used a pound cake to make a wine bottle laying down and it was super easy to carve. If your mandolin will also be laying down, I think you will be happy with the pound cake as a base. Good luck!what are you using for strings? black licorice?
