I need to make a strawberry/chocolate cake. They asked for no red dye. So no jello.

I've only made Marble cake from a box which is I suppose yellow cake with chocolate to marble.

I want to make some trial cake before her cake.
Thanks!

You can make strawberry by replacing some of the liquid with pureed fresh strawberries (soaked diced strawberries overnight in some sugar to caramelize) and use strawberry extract in place of some or all of the vanilla. I've made it this way on scratch, doctored and box mixes. The flavor is there but it's not pink without the dye, it's more of a very light pinkish beige color.
